Drama Group Presents Is He The Son of God? The new and quickly gaining momentum drama group here at the Rome Alliance Church presented Is He the Son of God? A Roman Soldier’s Easter Story during the Easter Sunday Morning service. The play was written to be a different presentation of the awesome Easter Resurrection story. This play presented the story of a Roman Soldier who witnessed the cruel and painful things that were done to Jesus Christ. He stood and watched Him die and he heard the solider standing next to him say, “Surely this man was the Son of God.” He was surprised to hear his comrade say such a thing, so he decided to find out if his statement was indeed true. It didn’t take him long to find out who were His followers and where he could find them. He went to John and asked him if Jesus really was the Messiah, the Son of God. Then he encountered Martha and Joses, two women who were there when He was crucified. He was surprised to find they were not afraid of him and that they were very upset with him for the part he played in the crucifixion of Christ. Thirdly he met with Peter, who was still very upset that he had denied his Lord three times. Peter conveyed the confusion the disciples must have felt as their King was taken into custody, beaten, and crucified as they stood helpless to do anything about it. Finally, our protagonist met with Mary, the mother of Christ, and Mary Magdalene as they made their way back from the empty tomb Easter Morning. He heard of the resurrection of Christ from the lips of two who had seen the risen Christ with their own eyes. They challenged him to make a decision based on the information he had received. He chose to believe that Christ was God’s own Son, the true Messiah the Jews had been waiting for, he knew that Christ was innocent when He died on the cross, and he heard that Christ had risen from the dead from these women. He accepted Christ as His Lord and Savior and went on to meet Him in Galilee with the women. This play presented the Easter Story from the perspective of a seeker – someone who isn’t a Christian but who is looking for more information about Him. We were praying that God would use the play to open the eyes of those who attend church regularly at Christmas and Easter and challenge them to do more than just attend a nice Church service twice a year – to accept Christ as their Lord and Savior just as our character did.
